A Brief History of Chess

    ~3500 BC: GAMES INVENTED

Humans have been playing board games for more than 5,000 years. The earliest recorded game was called Senet ("the game of passing"), and was played in ancient Egypt. It had 3 rows of 10 squares and two sets of 5 pawns each. The actual rules of the game are not known today, but skilled players were considered to be protected by the gods! Senet is even mentioned in Chapter XVII of the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
