    In 1999 Maurice Ashley became the first African-American Grandmaster. His popularity in the game has enabled him to become a motivational speaker, ESPN commentator, author, and national championship coach. He is also the organizer of the upcoming chess event: the Millionaire Chess Open, taking place in Las Vegas in October 2014. It boasts the largest prize in open chess tournament history!
