A Brief History of Chess

    1991: Youngest GM

In 1991 a new chess star crossed the threshold to become the youngest Grandmaster in history at 15 years and 4 months old. What made this especially remarkable is that this player was a girl playing in a man's world! Judit Polgar, born in Hungary in 1976, became the strongest female chess player of all time. She ranked among the world top 10 players (male or female) in 2005, when only a handful of other women have ever been in the top 500. Judit has won games against 10 current or former world champions including Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen! Judit's two other sisters Sofia and Susan are also highly accomplished chess players. Judit continues to play chess today with her trademark aggressive and complex style.
